Vaginal Cosmetic Surgery

by DoctorKate

Vaginal cosmetic surgery, or what is commonly known as the ‘Designer Vagina’ has hit the cosmetic surgery market with a vengeance. It now appears that there is nowhere sacred or inoperable in the world of perfection and that even your vagina is now not safe from the scrutiny and results of wanting the perfect body.

Of course there are also medical as well as aesthetic reasons behind why women choose this extremely personal and invasive surgery.  Some women whose vaginal region has suffered at the hands of their pregnancy opt for the surgery to put everything back in its place and working order, making sex more enjoyable.  However, there are also thousands of women out there opting for surgery to make their vagina look more attractive.

Like cosmetic surgery that takes place on other areas of the body, there is a range of vaginal cosmetic surgery treatments available depending on your requirements.  Cosmetic Labiaplasty, which is labia reduction surgery, involves surgically reducing and/or reshaping the female external genitalia. Women often opt for this surgery if they want to reduce discomfort caused by large or thick labia, which often interfere with exercise and wearing tight fitting clothes. Many women also opt for this treatment to make their vagina look more appealing by making the appearance of their vagina more “butterfly” or symmetrical.

For women wanting to tighten the muscles of their vagina following childbirth then Vaginoplasty, which is rejuvenation of the vagina, is the best option of cosmetic surgery.  The procedure involves tightening and rebuilding the vaginal muscles and the perineum. Childbirth, (especially after several children), aging, and genetic factors often cause the vaginal muscles to loosen or weaken, and tear. The diameter of the vagina gets larger and there is a loss of feeling (and sexual pleasure). Vaginoplasty returns the vagina to “pre-pregnancy” state and recreates sexual excitement and pleasure.

There has been lots of debate in the media regarding the topic of vaginal cosmetic surgery and the reasons behind its growth in popularity with women across the world.  Lots of women are under pressure from society to look their best at all times and it does seem a strange concept that even the vagina has not escaped this.  Apparently, an ugly vagina is extremely non-vogue, with the ideal look for this season being the “butterfly”, which basically translates to symmetrical labia.  This does smack of vanity at its worst, however, there are lots of additional cases where the surgery can make a huge difference to the comfort of a woman’s life.
For women who suffer with their vagina losing its tightness through genetics, ageing or childbirth, vaginal cosmetic surgery can transform their lives rejuvenating their sex life and increasing comfort and personal confidence making the idea of vaginal cosmetic surgery more palpable and easy to understand.

The debate of vaginal cosmetic surgery is still one that is split between providing an option for women to lead a healthier, happier and more comfortable life and one that is instead providing and fuelling an unhealthy obsession with perfection whereby no one or no body part is sacred.
